2010 Texas Skies District Adult Appreciation Dinner - NEW DATE!

Welcome the new Texas Skies District!

The Texas Skies District (TSD) is Sam Houston Area Council (SHAC) newest District and was born out of one of its largest Districts, the Mustang District.  The Mustang District stretched around I-10 between the 610 Loop on the east and Brookshire/Sealy on the West + and served nearly 140 units and over 5,000 Scouts.  Those units have now been reallocated between two Districts: the new Mustang will comprise the eastern part of the former district which is all of Spring Branch ID and some HISD schools; Texas Skies will serve the western portion with all of the Katy and Royal ISD areas.

With the exception of a few joint campaigns in 2007 (School Night for School, Popcorn, Cuboree and some training events), both Districts are now operating as separate Districts with their own leadership, meeting schedules and event planning.  The Texas Skies Key 7 has been recruited and actively leading the TSD activities.  The TSD Key 7 are: Forrest Bjerkass (District Commissioner), Michelle Phillips (Senior District Executive), Richard Shirley (Acting District Chair), Julie Spier (Vice Chair of Administration), Michael Scherer (Vice Chair of Program) and Mike Whatley (Vice Chair of Finance).  Each area under the Key 7 is continuing to recruit staff for their functions.  A number of the volunteer jobs have been filled but we are always looking for additional Scouters to help out!

Texas Skies has set up a full monthly set of District meetings to service its units and direct its activities:

District Commissioner Meeting: First Thursday of each month; 6:30 to 7:30 pm, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1603 Norwalk Drive, Katy, TX 77450

District RoundTable: Second Thursday of each month; The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1603 Norwalk Drive, Katy, TX 77450

District Committee Meeting: First Thursday of each month; 7:00 pm to 8:15 pm, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1603 Norwalk Drive, Katy, TX 77450

In addition to monthly District meetings, TSD is in full swing to offer a number of quality District wide events:

2010 Camporee

2010 Merit Badge Fair

2010 Webelos Woods

2010 District Dinner

TSD has its own Yahoo E-mail Group which is jammed packed with information about TSD happenings. See the links below to subscribe and join.

We are very excited about the possibilities for TSD!  It has a huge potential for growth and is rich in Scouting talents and spirit.  Come join us and help provide a quality BSA program to the community we serve.
